It’s one of those overcast days where the whole sky is low, heavy, and glowing shades of grey. I was reminded of this arctic fox that I painted several months ago when I was still enamored of all the fluffy white snow.
One of my favourite illustrators is Kay Nielsen, one of the artists from the Golden Age of Illustration along with Rackham and Dulac. While my own style is significantly different from Nielsen’s, sometimes I will spend some time with his work and imitate his style as a creative exercise. That’s where the piece above came from.
I often find that when I’m stuck in my writing an excellent way to get unstuck is to draw some of my characters or maybe a scene, even the design of a piece of clothing or furniture.
Similarly, when I become frustrated with my drawing, writing came sometimes break up the block.
This is an image from one of the stories I’ve been writing recently.
